The Scottish Music Information Centre is funded by the Scottish Arts Council to document and promote Scottish music. The main focus of its library at present is on contemporary classical music, but other musics are increasingly represented, and the information service covers all types of music. Its facilities include a reference library with over 6000 scores of work by Scottish composers from the Middle Ages to the present day, including a wide range of traditional music collections; a sound archive with over 25 years of recordings of Scottish music, including the latest classical, folk and jazz releases on CD; and an information database with details of organizations, artists, promoters, venues, festivals, courses, funding sources, etc. Much of this information is listed in the Scottish Music Handbook 1996 published by the Centre.
