Marry Verkade / Chimera John Millington Synge: The Aran Islands
A Dreary Rock Sloping Up from the Sea: Irish playwright John Millington Synge (1871-1909), himself a devoted fiddler, spent each summer during 1898 and 1902 on the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland to learn the Irish language. 'The Aran Islands' can be read for its sociological interest only, giving a glimpse on the life of the Aran peasantry at the turn of the 20th century, but it can also be seen in its context as essential material for his plays 'Riders to the Sea' and 'The Playboy of the Western World.'

Chimera: Symbol for Inspiration
At last a new episode in the series about Dutch (more or less) traditional music. This time the story of one of my personal favourites: the band Chimera. Together with the founders of the band, Marry and Bas Verkade, I look back at the glory times of the group during the late seventies and early eighties. The time they released both their LP’s and developed from an acoustic folk group into an experimental folk-rock band. They tell about the start and the abrupt end of the group at the height of their success.

Gudrun Walther / Cara Tuning in to the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing 2008:

Chinese Music: A Rich Traditional Heritage
The Music of China dates back to the dawn of Chinese civilization with documents and artifacts providing evidence of a well-developed musical culture as early as the Zhou Dynasty (1122 - 256 BC). Today, Chinese Music continues a rich traditional heritage in one aspect, while emerging into a more contemporary form at the same time.

Danish Roots: Bringing Danish Folk & Roots Music to the World
The project "Danish Roots – Growing in the World" was launched at one of the largest folk music events in Europe, the Tønder Festival in August 2006, in order to: "support a group of carefully selected Danish folk and roots musicians/bands in their international ambitions - and of course to make the world aware of all that Danish folk music has to offer."

UEFA Euro 2008: Expect Emotions
The European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland captivated the masses in June 2008. Culture and the arts were at a low. (Though some journalists credited the 2006 World Championship in Germany for an unexpected upsurge of German folk song CDs.) Be a sports enthusiast, be rather indifferent or just hate it, take the opportunity and follow us to FolkWorld's European Music Championship... and the Music of Spain. We share the same slogan: Expect Emotions! As UEFA president Michel Platini stated, "it describes in a nutshell what we have to offer: all kinds of emotions - joy, disappointment, relief or high tension."

Eliza Gilkyson Folk im Schlosshof: Flammekuchen, Games & Music
Three days of true hospitality by the festival team, mostly local volunteers. Three days of delicious catering, from grilled salmon to “Flammekuchen” (an egg-onion-bacon tart with origins in Alsace) and from local wines to fresh tapped Guinness or Kilkenny’s and sweet met. Three days of fun games and workshops. And most of all, three days of brilliant music. This is what the people of Bonfeld offered their guests during the 8th edition of “Folk im Schlosshof”.

Eliza Gilkyson: Chronicler of the Human Story
US-American singer/songwriter Eliza Gilkyson has been developed into one of the finest folk and roots music artists. Already known for well-crafted songs, the relaxed if not joyous feeling of her new album 'Beautiful World' is celebrating the beauty that shines amidst these dark days of war and corruption.

Oliver Kraus / Zydeco Playboys Rattle the Boards: The Parish Platform
When we meet up on a windy night in March, the weather is so bad that the Gardaí are advising that only necessary journeys are to be made. I’ve a deadline to meet and a little matter of the Cashel St. Patrick’s Festival to organise, in the words of Elvis Presley it’s now or never, there is no other option. -- Seán Laffey steps it out lively with Pat Ryan and Benny McCarthy of Rattle the Boards.

T:-)M's Nightshift: Book Reviews
Africa, USA, Canada, Scotland. Let's go on a musical journey starting in Africa, following the slave ships across the Atlantic to North America, further on to Europe, it rather is a luxury liner now, so let's have a refreshing drink on deck and enjoy the sunset. However, before we might relax, we have to appreciate the fact that in the beginning of it all is ... the Blues!

eCHo: I hole di o - einmal Hades und zurück

King Naat Veliov & The Original Kocani Orkestar

Dona Rosa: Eine musikalische Postkarte

Sina: In Wolkä fische
